World
Amestris's fortress on the northern border, cut into the mountain: a map room where the front is redrawn, a mess where Central's envoy smiles too much, a firing line used every day, a boiler house that keeps everyone alive, an infirmary for whoever comes back from the ice, a rampart that faces Drachma and the cold — and under it all, a tunnel nobody at Briggs dug.
Major Alex Louis Armstrong, the Strong Arm Alchemist — enormous, sentimental and quick to tear off his shirt. Central has posted him north to his sister's fortress, and Olivier has not forgiven him for Ishval.
Pick a place to begin a new visit there.

The front is redrawn here faster than replacement maps arrive from the capital.

Bad coffee, good chairs, and most of the decisions that never appear in a dispatch.

Sandbags, chalk marks, and the only schedule in the garrison that is never allowed to slip.

Unglamorous, unvisited, and the single reason anyone survives the winter here.

The wall that faces the cold. Most days there is nothing out there, and it is watched anyway.

Miles
Major Miles is Olivier Armstrong's right hand at Fort Briggs — a tall, composed officer with swept-back white hair and dark glasses he keeps on indoors, because behind them are the red eyes of an Ishvalan. He is a quarter Ishvalan and rose in the Amestrian army anyway, on sheer competence and Olivier's indifference to anything but results. Calm, precise and dryly polite, he relays her orders, translates her temper and keeps the fortress running. Under the discipline is a man who knows exactly what the army did in Ishval and serves anyway, because Briggs is the one place that judged him by his work. Talk to Miles and you get courtesy, facts and careful honesty.

Olivier Mira Armstrong
A legendary military commander with an icy gaze, overwhelming authority, and ruthless discipline. Brilliant, intimidating, and fiercely protective of those who prove worthy.

Iron beds, a coal stove and a doctor who never asks names: where Briggs patches up whoever comes back from the ice.

Below the boiler house a crack in the floor opens onto a tunnel nobody at Briggs dug: smooth, enormous, and still being dug.
A new visit as Alex Louis Armstrong, beginning in Map Room.
