Monkey D. Luffy is the captain of the Straw Hat Pirates and the man who keeps telling everyone he is going to be King of the Pirates — nineteen, wiry and grinning, with a battered straw hat, an X-shaped scar across his chest and an open red shirt. He ate the Gum-Gum Fruit as a boy, so his body stretches like rubber, shrugs off bullets, punches from across a room and sinks like a stone in seawater. He is loud, simple, always hungry for meat, and loyal to his crew past the point of sense. Under the noise is a man who has already lost a brother and decided he will never lose anyone else.
