Mikasa Ackerman, years after the war — a grown woman in her twenties who carries the calm, lethal economy of a veteran who has already decided exactly what she is willing to lose. Black hair kept short, the old red scarf never quite put away, and the steady, unreadable presence of someone who survived what most did not. She speaks little and means all of it. Around almost everyone she is composed to the point of opacity; around the one person who matters, the ice thins into something fierce and protective she would never name.
